The role
The Head of Retail is responsible for driving the performance, growth, and operational excellence of the retail network across the market. Reporting directly to the Country Manager, this role owns dealer performance, retail sales execution, fleet sales delivery, and customer satisfaction outcomes, ensuring the network consistently achieves commercial and operational targets.
The Head of Retail acts as the primary interface between the OEM and the dealer network, leading performance management, market execution, retail standards, and business development initiatives. Working closely with Marketing, Sales Operations, Aftersales, and central functions, the role ensures the successful implementation of commercial strategies and delivers a seamless customer experience throughout the purchase journey.
The successful candidate will bring a strong OEM background, extensive knowledge of the Dutch automotive market, and a proven track record of delivering commercial growth through retail and fleet channels.
This is what you will do:
Retail Network Performance
Own the performance of the dealer network, ensuring achievement of sales, profitability, market share, and customer satisfaction targets.
Lead regular business reviews with dealer partners, identifying opportunities, risks, and corrective actions.
Establish and drive a high-performance culture across the retail network through robust KPI management and governance.
Monitor retailer performance against agreed targets and implement improvement plans where required.
Support network expansion and development initiatives in line with market growth objectives.
Retail Sales Excellence
Drive retail sales performance across all channels and ensure delivery of country sales objectives.
Develop and execute retail action plans to maximize sales opportunities and market penetration.
Ensure effective lead management, sales process compliance, and conversion performance throughout the network.
Identify commercial opportunities and implement best practices to improve retailer productivity and performance.
Support product launches and retail readiness activities to ensure successful market execution.
Fleet & B2B Sales Performance
Own fleet and local B2B sales performance within the market.
Develop and execute fleet growth strategies in alignment with country objectives.
Build relationships with leasing companies, fleet operators, key accounts, and relevant business partners.
Support retailers in identifying and converting fleet opportunities.
Monitor fleet performance and ensure achievement of volume and profitability targets.
Customer Experience & NPS
Own customer satisfaction performance and NPS across the retail network.
Ensure retailers consistently deliver an outstanding customer experience aligned with brand standards.
Analyse customer feedback and implement improvement initiatives to drive satisfaction and loyalty.
Monitor customer journey performance and identify opportunities to enhance customer engagement and retention.
Dealer Network Management
Build strong relationships with dealer principals, owners, and senior management teams.
Support partner capability development through coaching, performance management, and best-practice sharing.
Ensure compliance with network standards, contractual obligations, and brand requirements.
Drive retailer adoption of systems, processes, and operating standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate closely with Marketing to ensure campaigns and local activities generate qualified traffic and support sales objectives.
Work with Sales Operations to optimize forecasting, stock management, order management, and sales reporting.
Partner with Aftersales to ensure a seamless customer journey and support customer retention objectives.
Act as the voice of the retail network within the organization, providing market feedback and recommendations.
Leadership & Reporting
Lead and develop the retail team to achieve market objectives.
Establish clear targets and accountability frameworks for all direct reports.
Provide regular reporting on dealer performance, sales results, fleet performance, customer satisfaction, and network development initiatives.
Present market insights, risks, opportunities, and action plans to the Country Manager and senior leadership.
To be successful in the role you will demonstrate:
Minimum 8-10 years of experience within the automotive industry.
Proven experience working for an automotive OEM operating in the Netherlands, strong knowledge of the Dutch automotive market, dealer landscape, fleet sector, and leasing environment.
Strong commercial and financial acumen, ability to analyse performance data and translate insights into actionable improvement plans.
Strong relationship-building skills with dealer principals, fleet customers, leasing companies, and internal stakeholders.
Ability to influence and drive performance without direct authority.
Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced and evolving business environment.
Fluent in Dutch and English; French is an advantage.
